We sell one thing. A heated robe that plugs into a wall socket and draws a hundred watts.

That is not the fashionable choice. Almost everything in this category now runs on a battery pack, because a cord looks like a compromise in a photograph. We went the other way, and here is the whole reason.

The Number That Decides It

A USB battery pack puts out about ten watts. That is roughly what your phone charger gives you, and in a heated garment it has to warm a piece of fabric close to the size of a bed sheet. It cannot. There is not enough there to feel.

So the people making battery wraps do the only thing left. They squeeze all ten watts into one narrow strip, because a small area getting hot is at least something you can notice. That is where the burning patch on your back comes from, and the cold everywhere else.

A wall socket gives you a hundred watts. Ten times the budget, same fabric. No amount of marketing closes that gap, so we stopped trying to and told you about the cord instead.

What We Will Not Do

We read the one star reviews on the big listings before we wrote a word of this site, and the same complaints came up again and again. People were told the whole garment heats when only one panel does. People were told about foot pockets that turn out to have no element in them. People found out at two or three months that a thirty day return window had closed.

So we say where the heat goes, in plain words, on the product page. We say the foot pocket is not heated. And the guarantee runs to the thirty first of March rather than for thirty days, because that is when these things actually fail.

There are also numbers we have not printed. The heat settings, the timer, the temperature range, the wash instructions and the safety certification are still with the factory, waiting to be put in writing. Most sellers in this category copy those off somebody else's listing. We would rather leave the gap where you can see it.
